Reflection
"Do you think the future is looking good for our future generations? Things might look the same, but are they really the same?"
The installation features two pillows arranged in a parallelogram formation, representing the parallel universes we inhabit. One pillow appears normal and comfortable, just like the standard we're accustomed to in our daily lives.
The other, while visually similar, reveals a disturbing truth upon closer inspection: it's filled with bottle caps and plastic waste collected during the self-tracking process.
Set on a split acrylic base, the installation contrasts a clear transparent section (housing the waste-filled pillow) with a textured surface that simulates recycled plastic board material (supporting the comfortable pillow). I actually reused my wife's old clothings and sewn the pillow case, emphasising the project's commitment to using recycled materials throughout.
Visitors are invited to engage with the installation by dropping bottle caps into provided glass jars, symbolically supporting the conversion of plastic waste into meaningful objects.
This work challenges viewers to consider how our current comfort may be built upon unsustainable practices, and how the "bad" reality could become universal if we don't change our relationship with plastic consumption. Through tangible, tactile experience, PARA // ELLO makes visible the invisible consequences of our daily choices.
Materials: Recycled pillows, plastic bottle caps, up-cycled fabric, reused acrylic panel, chipboard texture paper, glass jars
